Buffalo Bills vs. Minnesota Vikings

Hello Everyone,

Ready for week 4? Lets hope the Bills can bounce back from a disappointing loss to the Jets. The Bills will go against some familiar foes. Anyone remember Antoine Winfield and Pat Williams? Takeo is listed as questionable and it taking it day to day. We need him out there! We can’t win with no turnovers.

Speaking of Pat Williams, he did some good old fashioned trashing of the former Bills regime.

New York Jets at Buffalo, Home Opener!

Hi Everyone,

The Bills are taking on the Jets this weekend for their 2006 Home Opener and their 3rd straight AFC East game. A win and a Pats loss would leave them tied for 1st place in the Division, and a strong contingent of NYCBBBers will be there to lend their vocal support to the team.

Game Preview
Nick Flickinger is back with a summary of the Fins game and preview of this week’s game, along with some fun Fantasy picks and predictions. Check it out:
https://nycbbb.com/columns/092006.shtml

Tailgate Reminder
We’ll be partying at 8am sharp in the private grass lot East of Lot 1 and Pinto Kenny on the Big Tree Road (20A) side of the Stadium. There will be 2 kegs of Blue Light and coolers with mimosas and bloody marys for your enjoyment. $5 gets you unlimited booze and any additional money we collect over the costs of the booze goes to pay for our website and email server costs. Your generosity at last years tailgates allowed us to cover all of our costs without the need of additional fundraising! Thanks again!

Unfortunately, the weather prediction is currently not so pleasant so when you are packing for the weekend don’t forget a jacket. In addition if anyone is driving to the game and has a canopy they can bring please do so! We had similar weather predictions last year and they never materialized so lets keep our fingers crossed for similar luck. If the weather insists on doing something, let’s hope it’s a freak snowstorm instead!

Fish are Squished, Road trip!

Hi Everyone,

“It’s All Over, Clap Clap Clapclapclap!” was the cheer going up from Little Buffalo with about 8 minutes left in the game yesterday. With an unbelievable performance by the defense, the Bills thoroughly squished the Fish on their home field in the searing heat. Gone were the memories of last years 4th quarter collapse, this team clearly got stronger and more confident as the game went on. Truth be told, the moment I truly knew the game was over was when the Calico Jacks crowd when from booing Mike Mularkey to cheering him. As Phil points out in his excellent article, Mularkey did more for the Bills this week than he had the previous two seasons.

Recap
Since he is a much better writer than I am, I will leave the recap to Phil and his weekly feature “This Week at Calico Jack’s…”
https://nycbbb.com/columns/091706.shtml

Also, Phil is planning to do a future column about Bills fans’ superstitions, and would like to get your input.

Feedback
Once again, for those of you that attended yesterday, we need to hear your feedback. Had a great time? Terrible time? Let us know!

3rd Annual Buffalo Road Trip
This Sunday will mark our 3rd trip to the Motherland to watch the Bills stomp the Jets. Like last year, the tailgate is going to be held in a private lot off of 20A/Big Tree Road. We’ll be located next to Kenny Johnson’s Pinto tailgate in Lot 1 – Pole 5 on the other side of the tree line. The festivities officially start at 8am, but the private lot we’re in opens before the main lot we’ll most likely be there even earlier than that! We’ll have 2 kegs of Blue Light and some special coolers with Bloody Marys and Mimosas which were a huge hit at our last tailgate so get there early if you want some. We’re going to charge $5 per cup to cover the cost of the beer and drinks. We’ll also have plenty of grill space, so feel free to bring some food to throw on there. Here’s a map, we’ll be in the white area directly to the right of Kenny’s tailgate (its pole 5, NOT 6,) so if you find him, you’ll find us!
https://nycbbb.com/kenny/

As a reminder, this game will mark Kenny’s 200th straight Bills game and our friend Michelle Girardi will be there with some new friends from NFL Films to check out the scene. Don’t miss it! Also, if you’re planning on tailgating with us, please let me know by replying to this email.

Little Buffalo
Both bars WILL be showing the game next week, so if you can’t make it up to Buffalo be sure to come out and support the team with your fellow fans!

Sabres Email
Despite the stellar play of the Bills this week you didn’t really think I’d miss an opportunity to highlight the Sabres, did you? The team plays it’s first preseason game (already? Yup!) against the Leafs in Toronto and here’s hoping they follow the Bills lead and destroy their main rival. This year we have started up a new email for the Sabres fans, so if you are interested please head to our homepage and sign up or just email and let me know.

Finally, I hear that Culpepper got sacked again on his way to get coffee this morning. Poor guy.

McFadden’s in Buffalo News!

Hello all NYC Bills Backers!

Just a quick email…

Bills Backers/McFadden’s in Buffalo News
Various Bills Backers around the nation were mentioned in a great article that appeared in the Buffalo News this morning, including NYCBBB!

Game Preview
I’d like to introduce Nick Flickinger as NYCBBB’s newest staff member. Nick has been a member since 2002 and attends high school in NYC. He’ll be writing game previews as well as looking to start a NYCBBB Young Backer Group for all those under 21ers out there. Here is his first column:
https://nycbbb.com/columns/091406.shtml

Crowds
As all of you know, we get big crowds at the bars and some fans would rather have a quieter atmosphere to watch the games in. If watching Bills games with hundreds of your fellow fans is something you’re not comfortable with, then we recommend heading to satellite clubs in Queens and Hoboken. It looks like a member wants to get one started in Brooklyn as well on our message board. Please check out the message board for other locations.

See you all on Sunday!

Squish the Fish!

Hello all 1,587 NYC Bills fans!

Is everybody else over the loss from last Sunday as well? The Bills head to Miami to Squish the Fish this Sunday at 1pm for what is guaranteed to be another exciting game! The Bills/Dolphins rivalry always attracts a ton of Bills fans to 42nd and 2nd as the series stands at 3-3 the last three seasons. Look for Willis to have a huge game as he always comes to play when it involves his home town. The Bills placed Troy Vincent on IR for the year, so rookies Ko Simpson and Donte Whitner will be manning the starting safety positions. JP Losman has gotten positive reviews for his performance last week, can he lead the team to victory this week against a new and beat up Dolphins secondary? Come find out by joining NYCBBB at McFadden’s and Calico Jack’s this weekend!

Thanks to all of you the submitted feedback this week, 99% of you had a great time! Here are some updates based on your emails:

1) There will be NO table reservations at McFadden’s, the bar apologizes for the mix-up with the reserved tables last week and guaranteed that it won’t happen again.
2) The cooler broke down in McFadden’s early Sunday morning, which is what caused the beer pouring issues and was unavoidable. I’m glad that you all enjoyed the Stella and Harp which seamed to be the only beers cool enough to efficiently run for a few hours!
3) The AV issues have been worked out in Calicos, McFadden’s is working to get sound in the back room.
4) The bars will no longer be playing music during commercials.
5) Both bars will work to get more staff for this Sunday’s game.

Every year there are always a few kinks to be worked out the first week or two, and this year there were fewer kinks than in the past, especially considering we had the biggest crowd ever! The bathrooms were clean, wings were good, TVs worked, the service worked their butts off and everybody had a great time!

Sahlen hot dogs will be available for purchase starting this Sunday for $1 each! Just ask your wait staff for one! I’ll speak with the cooks Sunday morning and show them how they should be cooked. Also, feel free to order from the menus in each bar, the French Dip and Pit Burger in McFadden’s are my two favorites!

Doors open at 11am again…see you there!

Buffalo Bills
The Bills asked us to send out this ticket order form for the future games that tickets remain for. Also, if you haven’t done so already please sign up as a backer on the Buffalo Bills website. The more members we get, the more prizes we’ll get to give to you guys. Being a backer also has plenty of benefits for you.

Feedback Needed!

Hello all

Boy, that was one heck of a frustrating loss huh? However, let’s focus on the bright spots here:

1) We were 11 POINT underdogs, biggest point spread in the NFL this week
2) Our defense, playing with 5 rookies at many points, managed to make Tom Brady have one of his worst outings in years.
3) We DOMINATED the Patriots for the first half!
4) Lindell hit a 53 yarder!
5) JP had a rating of 86.1 and converted some great third down throws and didn’t throw an interception!

Sure we could have won the game, but at least the team and coaching staff showed that they can roll with the big boys! This will make Sunday’s game against the Dolphins a lot more interesting!

For those of you that attended yesterday, we need to hear your feedback. Had a great time? Terrible time? Let us know! We are well aware of the TVs in Calicos not working until kickoff, and will work with the bars to ensure that does not happen again.

We got so crowded that the bars had to stop letting people in at one point. As we always say, if you want a seat at either bar, you need to be there by 11am or make reservations at Calicos before hand.

Sahlens
50 pounds of Sahlen hot dogs were picked up in Buffalo and delivered to McFadden’s last night by member Paris Daskalakis. Paris runs a law firm in midtown, so if you need an attorney for anything, be sure to look him up! http://www.dasklaw.com

Courtesy
We got word that some fans were heckling some Giants fans that were guests of one of our members in McFadden’s. This will not be tolerated and in the future fans giving ANYBODY a hard time will be asked to leave. We want these bars to be friendly and open to all football fans since many members want to bring friends with them to experience the NYCBBB atmosphere. Who knows, some of these fans may convert to our side! Seriously, anybody not being courteous is out, we want this to be a fun and comfortable atmosphere for everybody.

Hoboken Backers
For those fans in northern New Jersey that have a hard time making it to the city for Bills games, look no further! A group of Bills fans have started a Hoboken Bills Backers!
https://nycbbb.com/features/satellites.shtml

Hope everybody had as great of a time as I did at the game!

Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots!

Hello all 1,550 NYC Bills fans!

It’s finally here, the 2006 Buffalo Bills season kicks off three days from now in Foxboro against our division rival New England Patriots. Has there been a more hated team for Bills fans the last five years? Most think the Bills will finish with a losing record this year, however nobody can deny that with Losman, McGahee, Evans, and Price, this Bills team may be the most exciting to watch since the glory days of Kelly, Thomas, Reed, and Beebe (or Lofton if you prefer.) Takeo Spikes will complete his amazing comeback and we’ll get to see first round picks Donte Whitner and John McCargo in action on defense. We’ll also get to see in action my favorite surprise of the preseason, 5th round pick Kyle Williams, who’s a blue collar player that scouts labeled as “a rolling ball of knives” and has earned a starting position on the defensive line. Marv Levy is back with the team and has created a coaching staff and roster that us Bills fans can once again be proud of and root for! I love that this team once again feels like it’s truly ours after five years darkness. Goodbye Tom, HELLO MARV ERA!!!

This young team made significant strides during the preseason and really began to gel and show its explosiveness on offense. If this trend continues, the Bills may…MAY…be the surprise team of the 2006 NFL season. We all need to be patient with JP, he’s going to make some huge plays for us, and likely some dumb ones as well. One thing is for certain, he’s going to be a hell of a fun player to watch!

Kickoff is at 1pm on Sunday which means the doors will open at 11am at McFadden’s and Calico Jack’s located on 42nd and 2nd. McFadden’s is 21 and over and on a first come first serve basis, whereas Calico’s accepts reservations (doubt there’s any left this week.) The specials run from 12-5pm and include beer and all you can eat wings. Coors Light has now been added to the $20 domestic draft special and Labatt Blue and Molson Canadian have been ordered to the $30 special. Due to the birth of my son this weekend, I was unable to coordinate getting Sahlen hotdogs to NYC, so those won’t be offered at this time.

As a reminder the bars can get quite crowded, so please have patience with fellow fans and remember that we’re all there to root for our Bills. Also, please remember to tip your weight staff. Both bars will have a ton of staff on and will do everything they can to serve us as fast and efficiently as they can.

Newest Bills Fan
My son and newest Bills fan, Thomas Hodson Gustave Kabel, was born on Saturday at 4:30pm. I (and many others) had been praying to the football gods that he arrive before his original due date of this Sunday so daddy wouldn’t miss the game. My prayers were answered. Before leaving for the hospital, I had on a regular polo shirt. I thought, ‘I gotta get this kid started from the get go’ and changed into a shirt with the biggest Buffalo Bills logo I had. The first time he opened is eyes in front of us after he was born, he happened to stare straight at the logo. The making of a Bills fan had begun….

Jets at Bills, Sept 24
If you’re heading up for the home opener, please email Kevin Smith. Once again he’ll be throwing a massive tailgate for us with kegs, mimosas, and bloody marys. We’ll be in the same private lot as last year next to our good friend Kenny’s pinto tailgate, who happened to be featured in the Buffalo News this morning. Former NYCBBB columnist Michelle Girardi hopes to have NFL Films on hand to film Kenny’s 200th game.

Sabres
Kevin has received over 100 signups for the NYC Buffalo Sabres Backers. If you want to sign up, go to our home page and enter your email address nycbbb.com

This is the 5th year of NYCBBB for Matt Soreco and I. At this time of the year I always think of the 20 or so of us Bills fans that sat at a table in McFadden’s dining room that first game. With hundreds of Bills fans expected on Sunday at the two bars, man, we’ve come a long way.

2006 Season and Newest Buffalo Bills Fan

Hello 1,513 Bills fans,

First lets all welcome our newest Bills fan and NYCBBB staff member Thomas Kabel, who was born over the weekend to proud new parents Nicole and Matt Kabel. Congrats Nicole and Matt! How long before he sings the shout song?

Are you ready for the 2006 season!? We are. So we wanted to send out a few notes.

As you know, we occupy two bars on 42nd and 2nd Avenue, which is also commonly referred to as “Little Buffalo.” McFadden’s is usually the more crowded of the two bars. Calico Jacks is less crowded and offers more seating and elbow room.

McFadden’s will be 21 and over only. If you have young ones with you, or if you’re under 21, you’re more than welcome to watch the game in Calico Jacks.

Calico Jacks will take reservations starting on noon on Tuesdays (starting today!!!). You can reserve up to 8 seats by calling 212-557-4300. Otherwise, it’s first come first serve for both bars. If you reserve seats at Calico Jacks, you MUST be there by 12:40 or you’ll lose your seats. No exceptions. There will be others swarming around like vultures, so get there on time.

Every game is at 1pm this year! That makes it easy to remember…Doors at both locations will open at 11am. Drink specials run from 12-5. One of the pre-game shows will be on until the Bills coverage is picked up.

The drink/wing specials are:
$30: All the draft beer (including Labatt Blue/Molson Canadian) you can drink and wings you can eat.
$20: All the Bud/Bud Lite draft you can drink and wings you can eat.
$15: All the POP you can drink and wings you can eat.

The new Levy/Jauron/Losman regime will be put to the test right away this Sunday against the Patriots at New England. The Bills are 9 point underdogs. That has to make Takeo angry!!!

I hope to see you all on Sunday.

— Matt “waiting for the day all 1,500+ of you show up” Soreco

JP Named Starter, Calico Reservations, Sabres

Hello All 1,531 Bills Fans,

That’s right, we’ve added 33 fans in one week! Welcome to everyone that is hearing from us for the first time, glad to have you aboard! The season is fast approaching and we’ve got a lot to cover, so let’s go:

JP Named Starter
After another solid performance against the Browns in the 3rd preseason game last Saturday night, JP Losman was named the starting quarterback by coach Dick Jauron yesterday. He has clearly been the best QB in practice and has said he feels much more comfortable than last year. The team needs to find out if JP is the real deal so this is the best possible outcome. Now he must win over his teammates and play smart football.

More Bills Notes
Takeo Spikes made his first appearance on the field since his Achilles tendon tear and true to form made the tackle on the Browns first play from scrimmage. The Bills lost 20-17 on a last second field goal but the starters played well, including a beautiful 54 yard TD from JP to our old friend Peerless Price. The Bills play their final preseason game tomorrow against the Lions and there are lots of positions still up for grabs. Backup WR, RB, LB positions are being hotly contested, and tomorrow’s game will go a long way to determining who makes the team.

Calico Reservation Info
Your NYCBBB staff has just about finalized all the details for the upcoming season at Little Buffalo and we’ll be sending a detailed email next week with all the info. One thing we wanted to mention is that Calico’s will again be accepting reservations for tables. They will begin accepting reservations at noon on Tuesdays and you can reserve up to 8 seats. The number is 212 – 557 – 4300.

3rd Annual Jets @ Bills NYCBBB Tailgate on Sept. 24th
I just got word yesterday that we sold ALL 100 tickets we had reserved for this game! This is going to be our biggest and best tailgate to date so if you don’t have tickets yet what are you waiting for? Call your friends and relatives, scour the internet, do whatever it takes to get yourself up there! It’s the legendary “Pinto Ron”/Kenny Johnson’s 200th straight game, and as an added bonus our very own NYCBBB ex-pat Michelle will be there with her new friends from NFL Films to catch some footage of the best tailgaters in the NFL for a piece for ESPN’s NFL Films Presents! The details of the tailgate are going to be almost identical to last year (check out our email archive) and I’ll be sending out more info as the date get closer. As a reminder, we aren’t arranging transportation or hotels in Buffalo so if you need a ticket, a ride or a hotel recommendation, post a message on our message board. If you’re planning on tailgating with us, please let me know by replying to this email!

Sabres Email
The Sabres run to the Conference Finals last year generated a LOT of enthusiasm and we had a great time following the team together. This year is shaping up to be even better and we are planning a lot more fun for everyone. In order to better serve you we have set up a new, Sabres only email list! We’ve updated the sign up link on our homepage to allow you to subscribe, and in less than a week we already a ton of names. If you are interesting in receiving additional Sabres emails, please sign up or reply back to this email and let me know.

I hope everyone has a great holiday weekend and I look forward to seeing you all at the season opener in 11 days!

—Kevin

Spread the Word!

Hello 1,498 Bills fans,

The season is right around the corner. And there is no better time than now to spread the word about NYCBBB. I know it’s already a routine for some of you vets, but for all you rookies… Help spread the word! Let every Bills fan you come across know that the place to be on Sundays is Little Buffalo (42nd and 2nd). Send them the link, stop them on the street. We’re at almost 1,500 members now. I want 2,000!

Some Bills News
Although his game against the Bengals wasn’t mistake free, it appears that Losman is improving and will be the starting QB on opening day. McGahee broke a 60 yard TD in the game. Will we see some of that breakaway speed in the regular season? Spikes is said to be progressing as planned and may play some on Saturday. Anyone else ready for the first T!K!O! chant of the season? Go to www.billsdaily.com for all the latest news and rumors.

If anyone you haven’t visited the Bills official site in a while, you should check out their multimedia section. They have a lot of game and practice highlights, interviews, press conferences, and other videos to keep you in tune with what’s going on. Check it out:
http://www.buffalobills.com/media-lounge/index.html

We’ll be e-mailing more and more as the season gets closer. For now, spread the word!
