Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots!

Hello all 1,550 NYC Bills fans!

It’s finally here, the 2006 Buffalo Bills season kicks off three days from now in Foxboro against our division rival New England Patriots. Has there been a more hated team for Bills fans the last five years? Most think the Bills will finish with a losing record this year, however nobody can deny that with Losman, McGahee, Evans, and Price, this Bills team may be the most exciting to watch since the glory days of Kelly, Thomas, Reed, and Beebe (or Lofton if you prefer.) Takeo Spikes will complete his amazing comeback and we’ll get to see first round picks Donte Whitner and John McCargo in action on defense. We’ll also get to see in action my favorite surprise of the preseason, 5th round pick Kyle Williams, who’s a blue collar player that scouts labeled as “a rolling ball of knives” and has earned a starting position on the defensive line. Marv Levy is back with the team and has created a coaching staff and roster that us Bills fans can once again be proud of and root for! I love that this team once again feels like it’s truly ours after five years darkness. Goodbye Tom, HELLO MARV ERA!!!

This young team made significant strides during the preseason and really began to gel and show its explosiveness on offense. If this trend continues, the Bills may…MAY…be the surprise team of the 2006 NFL season. We all need to be patient with JP, he’s going to make some huge plays for us, and likely some dumb ones as well. One thing is for certain, he’s going to be a hell of a fun player to watch!

Kickoff is at 1pm on Sunday which means the doors will open at 11am at McFadden’s and Calico Jack’s located on 42nd and 2nd. McFadden’s is 21 and over and on a first come first serve basis, whereas Calico’s accepts reservations (doubt there’s any left this week.) The specials run from 12-5pm and include beer and all you can eat wings. Coors Light has now been added to the $20 domestic draft special and Labatt Blue and Molson Canadian have been ordered to the $30 special. Due to the birth of my son this weekend, I was unable to coordinate getting Sahlen hotdogs to NYC, so those won’t be offered at this time.

As a reminder the bars can get quite crowded, so please have patience with fellow fans and remember that we’re all there to root for our Bills. Also, please remember to tip your weight staff. Both bars will have a ton of staff on and will do everything they can to serve us as fast and efficiently as they can.

Newest Bills Fan
My son and newest Bills fan, Thomas Hodson Gustave Kabel, was born on Saturday at 4:30pm. I (and many others) had been praying to the football gods that he arrive before his original due date of this Sunday so daddy wouldn’t miss the game. My prayers were answered. Before leaving for the hospital, I had on a regular polo shirt. I thought, ‘I gotta get this kid started from the get go’ and changed into a shirt with the biggest Buffalo Bills logo I had. The first time he opened is eyes in front of us after he was born, he happened to stare straight at the logo. The making of a Bills fan had begun….

Jets at Bills, Sept 24
If you’re heading up for the home opener, please email Kevin Smith. Once again he’ll be throwing a massive tailgate for us with kegs, mimosas, and bloody marys. We’ll be in the same private lot as last year next to our good friend Kenny’s pinto tailgate, who happened to be featured in the Buffalo News this morning. Former NYCBBB columnist Michelle Girardi hopes to have NFL Films on hand to film Kenny’s 200th game.

Sabres
Kevin has received over 100 signups for the NYC Buffalo Sabres Backers. If you want to sign up, go to our home page and enter your email address nycbbb.com

This is the 5th year of NYCBBB for Matt Soreco and I. At this time of the year I always think of the 20 or so of us Bills fans that sat at a table in McFadden’s dining room that first game. With hundreds of Bills fans expected on Sunday at the two bars, man, we’ve come a long way.
